Moving Elderly Parents to SE Florida From Another Country

Updated: Oct 23, 2023

By Humberto Fortuna MA, MS

As someone who migrated to Florida over 33 years ago, I can understand and feel the hardship of having your family or a family member out of the country.

There are many reasons and many situations that can cause families to separate and end up living in different countries.

But life sometimes rewards us and helps us reunite at some point on our journey.

Having the idea of bringing Mom, Dad or a loved one to Florida from out of the country, can be overwhelming. This Idea of bringing a loved one to be near you was, maybe a promise that you made many years ago… and that day may be now.

Let me help you make that promise come true. I can guide you in achieving it. I’ve assisted over 30,000 families, with the help of the Placement Counselors team, since 1999. As a Floridian, having arrived from Argentina in 1989, I understand the Healthcare System and how it operates very well. As a Healthcare Administrator, specializing in Long Term Care as well as an Aging Studies Graduate, I have the pleasure and satisfaction of assisting families in bringing their loved ones from all continents.

Placement Counselors Corp. provides information about Florida Senior Care Benefits and Services, specializing in Southeast Florida.

As Owner and Director of Placement Counselors Corp, it is my commitment to provide focalized assistance to clients and families in need of a brief intervention while transitioning from one country to another. I can help you find Alternative Housing such as: Assisted Living, Independent Living, Alzheimer’s Dementia Care units, or Mental Health licensed Facilities.

With my 25 years of experience in Transitional Services from out of the country to an Alternative Housing situation in Southeast Florida, I can help clients and families navigate the Healthcare System, while taking into consideration, psychosocial, clinical and financial programs to assist you and your loved ones as they go through this transition.

Coordination of benefits and services is important and must be done correctly in conjunction with the new facility or Alternative Housing the client will be moving into.

These benefits and services must be delivered at the time that they are needed and coordinated with the health care professionals of the new senior housing that you have chosen. I will become the advocate between your loved ones and the Health Care industry. My expertise is in Long Term Care and Benefits and Services available in the State of Florida. Placement Counselors will be the liaison to the family through all levels of care, (including hospital, assisted living, nursing home, hospice, etc.)

It is our goal to MAXIMIZE the services and benefits that are available to you and your loved one. We will guide you with the correct utilization of services that you or your loved one needs, such as Medicaid Institutional Care Program, Medicaid Waiver, Nursing Home Long Term Care Diversion, Diversion Transitional Programs, Optional Supplementation Systems and other services such as Veteran Benefits Resources and Medicare Services. It will be our goal to assist you and your loved one in coping with physical, emotional, psychological or financial situations. We consider all services, from Homecare, Alternative Housing, Clinical Social Services, legal services, insurances and any other healthcare services needed for a smooth transition.

Placement Counselors is just a phone call away. I can help you, free of charge, select the best Senior Housing or Assisted Living Facilities in Southeast Florida.

I will be able to help you determine whether a small or a large Assisted Living Facility is appropriate your loved one. I specialize in Southeast Florida, concentrating in Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County.
