Did you know most Senior Housing must have an Admission Criteria Policy?

It is very important to know and remember that all Senior Housing and Assisted Living Facilities in Broward County must have a written Admission Criteria Policy, by regulation. Since all Assisted Living Facilities in Southeast Florida must be regulated and surveyed to provide care to its residents, an Admission Criteria Policy should be included in your contract.

In some cases, the criteria for being admitted into a Broward Assisted Living Facility is as simple as a person being able to transfer from one chair to another with assistance. This is required for some facilities, but not for every facility. The idea of being in a Broward Assisted Living Facility is for the resident to be able to assist in completing an Activity of Daily Living task. The purpose of an Assisted Living Facility is to “ASSIST,” not to actually do the task for the resident. The goal is to keep the resident as active and involved in his own personal care while performing the Activities of Daily Living.

In Broward County, Assisted Living Facility Admission Criteria are not only based on clinical aspects, but on many other issues, such as safety. A prospective Broward resident must be physically able to exit the building, with assistance, in a fire drill, or any other emergency situation.

In some cases, Assisted Living Facilities in Broward County will not admit people even if they can transfer.

Each Broward County facility has its own criteria, their own policies, and their own target population type. They may not want wheelchairs or even walkers. This is up to each individual facility. They can implement any house policy they choose, as long as they remain in compliance with the state regulations.

Broward County has very important cities such as Coconut Creek, Cooper City, Coral Springs, Dania Beach, Davie, Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale Beach, Hillsboro Beach, Hollywood, Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Lauderhill, Lighthouse Point, Margate, Miramar, North Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Parkland, Pembroke Park, Pembroke Pines, Plantation, Pompano Beach, Sea Ranch Lakes, Southwest Ranches, Sunrise, Tamarac, Weston, Wilton Manors.

Because Assisted Living Facilities in Broward County are privately or corporately owned, the policies they implement are legal, as long as they are approved by the Health Care Administration in whatever state they are located.
